Once Upon a Human, 2025
Tommy Smits, Shani Leseman, Zinderin Kunst

2,20 x 2,80 meter, ceramics, blued steel

Through both its form and its creation process, this wall relief expresses a longing for a shift in our understanding of the human—from a focus on individualism to a vision rooted in mutual connection with others and the environment. Ten artists from Zinderin Kunst, Tommy Smits and Shani Leseman each designed several tiles, drawing inspiration from everyday experiences, esoteric imagery, and scientific references. Together, their contributions form a hybrid human figure—a collective body that offers a reflection on our place in the world and embodies the principle of shared authorship.
